Process

The Tier 1/Instant Account Opening Process allows new customers to apply for and instantly open a new bank account with a bank within minutes. The application form can either be embedded in the banks website or other similar channels were potential customers can access it and open a new account with the bank without having to come into the banking halls. Once the customer kickstarts the process, they are asked if they have a Bank Verification Number (BVN)(i.e. a BVN is a unique number assigned to bank account holders by regulators in Nigeria). If the customer has a BVN, he/she is asked to enter it. Once entered, the BVN is verified via a third-part verification service. Once the BVN is verified to be correct, an OTP is sent to the customer’s phone number (i.e. the primary phone number attached to the BVN upon registration). The customer is then prompted to enter in the OTP sent to the customer’s number. Once done, the customer continues the account opening process by specifying the type of account they want, selecting the services required and providing the required ID.
Once the customer is done providing all the required information, the customer signs using the wet signature feature and submits. Upon submission, a congratulatory email is sent to the customer’s email containing their new account number and information about card collection. This ends the process.
